Childhood Nutrition by Design - 2018
I developed and taught a 10-wk design studio class to 12 undergrad Stanford students. We used what was taught in class to design and implement a service project to improve healthy food choices for underserved elementary school children in East Palo Alto.
Design for Child Health Equity - 2018
The aim of the class was to imagine novel interventions that may reduce health disparities for discharged neonatal ICU babies with medical complexity. We focused on families in low-income communities served by Stanford's Pediatrics Division. My project in the class was to design for the mom of a differently abled child with complex care needs. She was very social but was all consumed by her daughter. She needed trustworthy support to take guilt free breaks. Otherwise, she'll always prioritize her daughter over her own self care. I worked with a team to come up with a solution called Care Club that brings together parents in similar situations and allows them to socialize and host events while the kids are under supervision of a trusted medical professional. We engaged the hospital, clinicians, families, policy and social service experts to be able to empathically design for our user.
Disrupt Diabetes - 2018
A patient-led, multi-stakeholder design challenge.
As lead designer on our team I led the week to week design sprints with the student designer and the patient. We executed on the full design process with the patient to create a nutrition app based off of the data from a continuous glucose monitor. Our patient was a data scientist so our focus for the app was to provide data driven visualizations that will motivate the patient towards informed eating habits. Our app designs won the competition and we were offered a stipend to work on it further. We received mentorship from Stanford Medicine doctors as well as Dennis Boyle, founding member of IDEO.
